Roasted Brussels Sprouts

I had never been a big fan of Brussels Sprouts. I had tried them years ago, in fact I think the ones I tried were even fried in some fatty batter, and I still didn't like them!
 But this past weekend, I picked up a few at the local farmer's market and made a pretty bomb.com little snack out of them if I do say so myself! 
You can get super creative with them. If you like spicy, salty or even sweet snack options, I'm sure with a few attempts you could achieve any of those with Brussels Sprouts! 
But with my recipe below, I'm more than sure your little taste buds and tummies will be quite content. Enjoy! :) 

Britaña's Roasted Brussels Sprouts
What you'll need: 


Grated Parmesan Cheese, Olive Oil Cooking Spray, Black Pepper and Pimentos! 

Instructions: 

Preheat your oven to 400°F
Rinse your Brussels Sprouts in cold water and tear off any leaves that don't look appealing. Also, trim the stems! 

Next, you'll want to cut the Sprouts lengthwise, from stem to the top. 



I then lined my baking sheet with foil (because I hate getting my pans dirty!) After I lined it with foil, I sprayed the pan with Olive Oil cooking spray. Then I lightly sprayed the top of each Brussels Sprout. 


After coating every Sprout with the spray, I sprinkled grated Parmesan Cheese on each one! Grated Parmesan Cheese is pretty forgiving, so I wasn't hesitant to sprinkle on as much as I wanted! 


Next, I sprinkled Black Pepper on each Sprout as well. (You can try any spice that your taste buds desire! Mrs. Dash has GREAT options!) 


Yummy!! They're ready to be put in the oven!! 
Let them bake for 30 minutes! 


Now it's time to add a little finishing touch before they're completely done baking! 
Pimentos!!


Add Pimentos to the top of each Sprout! 


And put the Sprouts back in the oven for 5 more minutes! Then you're done! Let them cool a few minutes before serving!

(If you only do 2 Tbsp of Parmesan Cheese instead of being as generous as I was LOL...here are the nutritional facts) 
Per serving (about 5 medium sized Sprouts): 
130 calories
6 g fat
1.5 saturated fat
4 mg Cholesterol
260 mg Sodium
6 g carbs (3g dietary fibers, 3g sugar)
5 g protein

What's in my Gym Bag?

I am a sucker for the ever-so popular "what's in my purse" blogs that all the YouTube guros post. I'm guilty of being a nosy human being at times, so of course I want to see what's in other people's purses and handbags. It's fun! 

So, I decided to do a remix and give you a little peek into my gym bag.  
This will also be a testament of my OCD. 
Truthfully, I did not clean or organize my bag beforehand. I really am this much of a neat freak.

I always keep my resistance bands in my bag


These babies have been my protection from nasty calluses since 2010! 
Good ole' faithful Harbingers


 I jam out during my workouts using my iPhone, so I use this arm band which I found at TJMaxx 
for $8.95 I believe! 


 I keep all of my hair ties/bands/accessories organized in a little plastic baggie


 I also keep extra headphones and my shuffle in another plastic baggie


 Shoutout to my amazing brother, Brett, who spoiled me with my beats :) 


Usually, I'll sit in the sauna or steam room at the end of my work out. I also take showers at the gym on occasion. So my lovely pair of $2 Old Navy flip flops never fail me. :) 


I keep a toiletry bag stocked with a toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, floss, body spray, face wipes and moisturizer. A must!


My number one key to preserving my muscle is taking my pre-measured Protein/Mass Fuzion/Glutacor in my shaker cup to the gym with me. Once I'm done with my training, I simply fill up my cup at the water fountain. By immediately consuming this after my workout I ensure my hard work isn't wasted and my muscles recover effectively.


Side pockets


In one of the side pockets, I keep body lotion, tanning lotion (haha notice the vulgar name of my tanning lotion!!), a body scrub, a loofah, ANX-P3, and my other vitamins/supplements in my little NutriShop pill case. 
Oh!! And that Elmer's glue was from my last competition!! It's used to keep the bikini bottoms glued onto your bum :)    


And I guess I have gum in there too, of course. 


LOVE this little Bath & Body Works antibacterial PocketBac. So cool! 


I'm off to the gym to work my booty off! (well, not literally hehe)

Snack time!

One of my favorite snacks is a good ole' greek yogurt. To stay away from fats/sugars as much as possible I stick to the plain and non-fat ones, so the taste is not always the most inviting. (In fact, sometimes it can even be BITTER... ugh!)
 But greek yogurt is GREAT for you, so just get creative with it!


Here is one of my tastiest little concoctions!
Plain, non-fat greek yogurt (18g Protein), mixed with 1/4 scoop of Pro5 Vanilla protein powder (available at NutriShop).
 Add in 1 tsp of Cinnamon and 5 walnuts! Stir it all up and enjoy your delicious, protein packed treat! 
(Try freezing it for 10 minutes and you'll have yourself an ice cream treat!)

Calories 216, Protein 32 g, Carbohydrates 11g, Total fat 4g (from the walnuts), Sugars 8g.

Whatever you may be going through today....

Just remember this: 

Everyone has a journey filled with tribulations and hardships. If we continue to keep a strong focus on the non-idealistic situations and predicaments, instead of allowing the struggle to positively mold us, we have the greatest potential of missing out on some of life's greatest little gifts.
